ST. LOUIS -- Laclede Group of St. Louis says it will pay just more than $1 billion to buy utility companies in Missouri and New England.  Laclede said Monday that it will buy the state's second-largest natural gas utility, Missouri Gas Energy of Kansas City, which has 500,000 customers in western Missouri.  It will also buy New England Gas Co., which serves 50,000 customers in southeast Massachusetts.  Both utilities are owned by Southern Union Co.
