Humane Society, state seized nearly 100 dogs, cats from home in Taney County

The owners said all of the pets were spayed and neutered; they can't find out what happened to the animals.

KIRBYVILLE, Mo. -- Don and Linda Burke saw their small farm as a type of rescue for animals.  Missouri state workers saw it differently.  On March 27, investigators from the Missouri Department of Agriculture loaded up 73 cats and 24 dogs that were in the care of the couple in Taney County.  In an official state report, investigators cited what they called an environment "unhealthy for animals."
